The mission of Arms Around Bainbridge is to provide support to members of the Bainbridge Island community facing overwhelming financial and emotional burdens associated with a serious illness. Arms Around Bainbridge provides immediate assistance for basic human needs through direct person-to-person support and interaction with our beneficiaries. The all-volunteer organization accomplishes its work through community fundraising activities and partnerships, and by building local and regional awareness.

Assistance Dogs Northwest

The mission of Assistance Dogs Northwest (ADNW) is to provide professionally trained dogs that increase independence and enhance quality of life for children and adults with disabilities and other special needs. Our vision is to continue training and placing more Assistance Dogs in the Pacific Northwest that will help both the dogs and their partners realize their full potential. ADNW, with headquarters located on Bainbridge Island, improves the lives of over 10,000 people annually through the delivery of Assistance Dog Programs and Community Outreach Programs, including our Therapy Dog Program, Veterans Program, Workplace Readiness Program, and Education Program. Assistance Dogs and lifetime follow-up support are provided free of charge to ensure equitable access to our programs and services for those with the greatest needs.

Bainbridge Island Senior & Community Center

The Bainbridge Island Senior & Community Center seeks to empower and enhance the quality of life of people in our community as they age. We serve over 3,000 members and guests each year, providing unique opportunities for social interaction and recreation, plus information and resources to help seniors live independently.

The Center’s purpose is crystallized in its vision: “Bainbridge Island is a vibrant, compassionate, inclusive place to grow up and grow older.” This vision is consistent with the City of Bainbridge Island’s Comprehensive Plan, which emphasizes principles of a caring community, neighborliness as the foundation for all human services, and the importance of cooperation and coordination among service providers.

Bainbridge Island Special Needs Foundation/Stephen’s House

Bainbridge Island Special Needs Foundation/Stephens House was established in 2002 to serve adults with developmental disabilities who reside throughout Kitsap County. BISNF’s affordable day program reflects our belief that adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities thrive through participation in various community-based recreational and social activities. Our goals are to provide a space where our members can create community, develop friendships, improve their physical and mental well-being, learn new skills, and increase their self-confidence and sense of belonging. Activities include, but are not limited to, special events in the community, swimming, CrossFit, yoga, art projects, computer activities, movies, music, grocery shopping, and cooking. BISNF is funded primarily through private and public grants and individual donations. We are a DSHS-approved Respite Agency.

Bainbridge Island Visually Impaired Persons Support Group

Our organization provides education, social support, and resources that improve independence and maintain quality of life for blind and low-vision persons. For example, “How- To” information on minimizing household hazards, simplifying food preparation, improving reading skills, adapting to digital devices, and traveling techniques is offered to all who have vision problems. We also serve as an advocate for the inclusion of visually impaired persons in the broader activities of the community by emphasizing their problems, needs and capabilities. Regular meetings by Zoom or in-person afford opportunities for information exchange and network development among members. Support through One Call For All enables the organization to extend community outreach, strengthen educational programs, and acquire equipment that is used for demonstration and training, thereby improving the capacity of visually impaired persons to function more effectively in their daily environment.

Bainbridge Youth Services

Since 1962 Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS) has been dedicated to the emotional and social well-being of youth by helping them learn and lead while feeling seen, heard, and supported through a variety of programs and services. BYS offers confidential and professional mental health counseling to youth 13-21, peer-to-peer support groups, peer tutoring for all ages (K-12), Work Ready Bainbridge (summer employment & workforce certification program), a community jobs board, the BYS Service Club, and SilverTech Squad. BYS youth and their families are also served through our family services programs including parent counseling and parent support groups.

With generous community support, everything we offer is free to youth. This means that our services are accessible to all youth without barriers.

Boys & Girls Club of Bainbridge Island

Boys & Girls Club of Bainbridge Island is a vital part of the Island community, with a long history of deeply impacting the Island’s youth and families. The Club provides a safe and enriching out-of-school environment and offers an important support system for kids and their families.

Club programs range from after-school care for early elementary-aged youth to robust enrichment and Friday night activities for older kids, and community service opportunities for teens. In the summer, the Club offers high-quality, affordable day camps that feature, arts, sports, science, field trips, and exploration. The Club’s innovative and culturally responsive programs are designed to empower youth to excel in school, become engaged leaders, and lead healthy, productive lives. Coffee Oasis

The Coffee Oasis is a faith-based non-profit organization that exists to create pathways of opportunity for youth to be restored in heart, soul, mind, and body. We believe youth are the future of our community, but many are hurting, homeless, and hindered from living their full potential. The Coffee Oasis youth programs offer a place for the community to invest in their future—the youth. We do this through creating safe shared spaces, mentorship, street, and school outreach, goal setting, job training, shelter, and crisis intervention. The only way for our mission to succeed is through the support of the entire community—intentional inter-generational and cross-cultural investment. Dispute Resolution Center of Kitsap County

The Dispute Resolution Center of Kitsap County (DRC) strengthens relationships, families, and communities through mediation, facilitation, training, and Restorative Practice services. The goal of the DRC is to build community through the power of effective dialogue. Our mediators help neighbors, businesses, families and agencies find resolutions to their conflicts. We offer facilitation services for board retreats, community Issues, and business meetings. The DRC also offers a variety of training programs. The 40-hour mediation training helps potential mediators meet requirements for certification as well as helps others learn life skills. Our school-based trainings help youth learn skills to deal with conflict in a positive way. All of our trainings offer participants the opportunity to look at conflict in a different way. Finally, our Restorative Practices team is available to work with youth, schools, workplaces, families and HOAs to allow parties to work together to improve challenging situations and repair harm.

Give to Heal

Give to Heal is a nonprofit dedicated to funding wellness and holistic services that help women heal from trauma. Give to Heal contracts with culturally competent, trauma-informed practitioners whom women seeking help might not otherwise be able to afford. Access to healing services allows the residue of trauma to safely surface and be released through a variety of physical, mental, and energetic channels. In a safe and collaborative environment, therapeutic modalities like acupuncture, reflex-therapy, yoga, and massage can positively transform the lives of survivors. Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County

More than half of Kitsap County renters are cost-burdened – spending more than half of their monthly income on housing. Habitat partners with families to help them build and buy decent, affordable homes of their own. They work alongside staff and volunteers, learning about construction and home maintenance; and they pay an affordable mortgage. Each home we build lays a foundation upon which a family can build a better life for itself and create greater financial stability for generations to come. In support of our home building efforts, it is our pleasure to offer to Bainbridge Islanders a donation pick-up service. This service keeps approximately 150 tons of quality goods out of the landfill each year. These goods, instead, are sold at our Store, and the money raised helps support our mission.

Harmony Hill

Harmony Hill inspires healthy living for all and transforms the lives of those affected by cancer. We believe in the practice and science of emotional healing and offer signature cancer retreats and workshops to cancer patients and their loved ones. The programs provide hope and healing through tools that enable people to change habits, improve lifestyles, and redefine their cancer experience. Harmony Hill also offers health professional renewal and grief and loss retreats to support healing and restore human connection. Under our new umbrella organization, Cancer Lifeline, and our partnership with the Orion Center for Integrative Medicine, we now have a full spectrum of resources for people affected by cancer and their caregivers. In addition to our healing and renewal retreats, our services now include classes, support groups, financial assistance, counseling, research, and integrative healing practitioners to improve the quality of life for all cancer survivors.

Helpline House

Helpline House is a community non-profit agency providing an umbrella of social services striving to help our Bainbridge Island neighbors meet essential needs. Basic services are provided cost-free, regardless of income. Needs are defined broadly and are not always financial. Any community member in crisis or in need of consultation is welcome. The agency houses a comprehensive food bank, in addition to a full scope of social services. Social service appointments cover a large range and include direct financial assistance, activity scholarships, assistance with Medicare (SHIBA), transportation assistance, and resource referrals – and two programs to further strengthen the community: a children’s mental health therapist and a community care coordinator to assist with the island’s aging population. Helpline also offers children’s programs for back to school and school breaks, in addition to holiday giving programs for all clients.

Housing Resources Bainbridge

Founded in 1989, Housing Resources Bainbridge (HRB) is Bainbridge Island’s only nonprofit affordable housing provider and advocate. As a community land trust, we conserve land for permanently affordable homes for rent and sale to low- and moderate-income households. Our Independent Living program helps older income-eligible adults and people with disabilities age in place by performing home repairs and modifications free of charge. By making it possible for people of diverse backgrounds and incomes to live on Bainbridge, we are building a more equitable, inclusive, and healthy community.

Island Volunteer Caregivers

Island Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) has been serving Bainbridge Island and its neighboring communities since 1996. Dedicated to supporting independence, IVC provides free assistance to older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and those facing adversity. Through a network of over 300 volunteers, IVC pairs volunteers with individuals in need of help with daily tasks. Essential services include transportation, errands, shopping, grocery and prescription pickups, respite, companionship, and emotional support through grief and caregiver support groups. Life enrichment activities such as walking groups and field trips further enhance well-being. Every summer, we deliver hundreds of donated, homegrown bouquets through our annual Flowers From the Heart program—keeping our neighbor-to-neighbor connections blossoming through helping hands and open hearts. Kathleen Sutton Fund

The Kathleen Sutton Fund (KSF) has a single and simple mission: To reimburse transportation costs for women undergoing treatment for cancer, living in Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, and Mason Counties.

Since 2003, KSF has been providing some relief from this financial stress, during an already difficult time, for costs that are typically not covered by insurance. Reimbursement of more than $1.3 million has been distributed to over 2,000 women, since KSF began. Many patients find themselves in dire financial difficulties, forced to choose between paying the rent or receiving treatment. Reimbursement for client and companion includes; mileage, ferry fees, parking & other transit expenses to reach their cancer treatment, providing some measure of financial relief and with a goal to allow them to focus on healing. In 2003, 3 women were reimbursed with costs. In 2023, we reimbursed 280 women with over $150,000. Thank you to the community for its ongoing support!

Kitsap Brain Injury

Our vision is to motivate survivors to pursue a fuller, more independent life that is neither limited nor defined by brain injury. The specific purpose for which Kitsap Brain Injury is organized is to provide information, motivation, inspiration, and support to brain injury survivors. We support, educate, and encourage survivors of brain injuries to lead the fullest lives possible by providing a safe, judgment-free support structure to people who have experienced a traumatic or acquired brain injury and their loved ones through dialogue, sharing experiences, and helpful strategies to survive and thrive after a brain injury We currently hold five to six meetings per month. Our educational groups, which occur on the second Thursday of each month, introduce and discuss concepts that we have found are essential for successful recovery. The TBI Klatch is an informal check-in that takes place every Monday at 10:00 AM.

Kitsap Foster Care Association

Kitsap Foster Care Association strives to support and inspire foster, kinship and adoptive caregivers through educational opportunities, enrichment activities and by advocating for foster children in our community. Fun outings (like movie nights, pumpkin patch trips and baseball games) allow families a chance to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere where they don’t have to worry about standing out. Our annual training conference help caregivers meet state requirements as they learn and grow together, ensuring safe and stable placements for the vulnerable kids in our community (which benefits the whole community). Other benefits offered include backpacks full of school supplies and holiday gifts. We honor foster families annually during May, which is designated Foster Parent Appreciation Month. Our board is comprised solely of volunteers who are also foster parents.

Kitsap Homes of Compassion

A retired engineer, Joel Adamson founded Kitsap Homes of Compassion in 2017. The mission of KHOC is to provide safe, affordable, and permanent housing solutions with comprehensive support services for those who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Rooms in 3-to-6 bedroom homes are sublet to folks experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity for an affordable fee including wifi and utilities ($775 single/$1225 master) after creating a master lease with homeowners. KHOC has expanded to be a property manager for 26 homes across Kitsap County (including Bainbridge Island!) with Permanent Supportive Housing and transitional WAQRR accredited Recovery Home models, and offers Housing Support Services with a Housing First grant from the Washington Health Care Authority and the Foundational Community Supports program. KHOC also has a Mental Health Program available for residents and people in the Housing Supports Program, with services that include counseling and care planning.

As a trusted provider of direct services to immigrant families in Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson, and Clallam counties, Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center works to build power within communities through education, advocacy, and social justice. Kitsap Legal Aid Services

At Kitsap Legal Aid Services, we believe that justice should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their income. We connect members of our community with staff and volunteer attorneys and legal professionals to ensure that those facing legal challenges—whether in housing and eviction, family law, domestic violence, estate planning, or other legal issues affecting the most important basic rights and needs– receive the support they need. Kitsap Mental Health Services

Kitsap Mental Health Services offers hope and opportunity to 5,000 community members each year by providing compassionate, recovery-centered behavioral health care. Our dedicated staff members are experts in delivering a broad continuum of mental health and substance use disorder treatment for all ages. Services include crisis, inpatient, outpatient and residential treatment and services, with each designed to best support an individual’s recovery. We know recovery happens because we see it every day at our facilities in Bremerton, South Kitsap and North Kitsap. They include: the Crisis Triage Center for adults who need 24/7 care but do not require hospitalization; Pacific Hope and Recovery Center, which provides residential care for adults with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, and Pendleton Place, which opened in March 2022 and is providing permanent, assistive housing for 72 chronically homeless individuals with severe mental illness, substance abuse disorders and chronic health conditions.

Knights Community Hospital Equipment Lend Program (KC HELP)

Knights Community Hospital Equipment Lend Program (KC HELP), provides Durable Medical Equipment to people for use in their home free of charge. From hospital beds to lift chairs, wheelchairs, portable bathroom equipment, etc.—whatever the need, there’s a good chance we can help. And regardless of circumstances, we try to help everyone we can. We were established here on Bainbridge Island in 2017 and our growth continues at a rapid pace. We now support all of Kitsap County from our Bainbridge Island and Bremerton service centers, and this year we expect to help over 2,500 people with 4,500 pieces of equipment!

Meals on Wheels Kitsap

Since 1973, Meals on Wheels Kitsap (MOWK) has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for Bainbridge Island residents, aged 60+ years through healthy, nutritious meals and more. Our mission is to “provide meals, nutrition, and support services to improve the quality of life for seniors and others with hunger and health needs in Kitsap County.” Our vision is a “community of people living well while aging in place with good nutrition, independence, and dignity.” We accomplish both through two primary year-round programs targeting mobile and homebound seniors–Community Dining and Home Delivered Meals. Mobile clients can dine on healthy hot lunches served weekdays at the Bainbridge Senior Center, while homebound seniors receive meals delivered directly to their homes by MOWK drivers. Nurse Meg’s Beacon of Joy Endowment Fund

We provide financial assistance to Seattle Children’s Medical Unit patients and families needing emergency assistance with food, transportation, housing or other critical needs as determined by Seattle Children’s staff.

Our daughter, Meg Reynolds-Gooch, during eight years as a nurse on the Medical Unit, effected calmness, joy, healing among her patients. A long-distance runner, Meg did not allow cancer to define her or how she lived her life. Cancer was an uninvited obstacle presenting hurdles that she literally ran through and flew over with infinite grace, strength, resilience. Meg never dipped in zest for life overflowing with adventure, laugher, love. Her colleagues called her the “baby whisperer” for her special gift nursing sick children that left permanent imprints on innumerable lives—patients, families, co-workers. Nurse Meg’s Beacon of Joy Endowment, annually distributing 4.5% of its value, honors Meg’s words from our last conversation: “I want to be remembered as a beacon of joy.”

Peaceful Morning Farm

Peaceful Morning Farm’s mission is to raise organic food for those in need, raise awareness of food insecurity, cultivate knowledge of sustainable agriculture, and foster community on Bainbridge Island. On .62 acres of public land leased from the City of Bainbridge Island at the historic Morales Farm, we grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables with all volunteer labor. One hundred percent of the food is distributed to Helpline House and other local food banks or given to farm volunteers. Our food provides free access to fresh, organic produce to nearly 1,500 individuals every year. Our volunteers are all ages and abilities, and learn principles of sustainable agriculture in a fun, collaborative environment. As a newly formed non-profit, we are striving to strengthen the farm’s capacity and potential for long-term success, provide more learning opportunities about growing food, and increase food production.

Peninsula Community Health Services, a nonprofit community health center, has been delivering comprehensive healthcare to Kitsap, Mason, and Pierce counties since 1987. Our patient-centered approach focuses on primary medical care, preventative and restorative dental services, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, and pharmacy services. We are committed to community well-being, our integrated care model, treating the whole patient with multiple services all conveniently housed under one roof. In an exciting development this year, PCHS is venturing into housing initiatives. Scarlet Road

Every person is worthy of a vibrant life of freedom. Through holistic care, Scarlet Road offers the hope of freedom to those who have been sexually exploited. We work to prevent sex trafficking from happening, reach survivors of trafficking in our community, and restore survivors to a life of freedom. We are the primary organization offering critical and long-term services to survivors of sexual exploitation in Kitsap.

Last year, we provided individualized support to 160 survivors of sex trafficking in our drop-in center and out in the community. In 2025, we anticipate serving over 200 survivors, including the several survivors we’ve served on Bainbridge Island already this year. Our program is to provide a wide spectrum of employment support services to Veterans, low-income and homeless individuals such as: Providing labor market information and job listings, job placement assistance, career counseling and individual mentoring. Providing Access to additional information and contacts for additional health, food, youth or community services through other non-profit agencies throughout Kitsap County. Our immediate goal is to provide every unemployed worker the compassion, encouragement and tools he or she needs during their job search. United Way of Kitsap County

Since 1937, we have been dedicated to investing in initiatives that strengthen communities and build partnerships that create positive change. Our primary focus areas—Health, Education, and Financial Stability—allow us to provide long-term solutions that significantly impact people’s lives. Five years ago, we launched our 2-1-1 services to connect individuals in need with essential human service resources. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to make a difference in our community. Our United Way Cares program provides care packages filled with both seasonal and essential goods for our neighbors facing homelessness. We also run the ABCD Dentistry program, which helps families find children’s dentists for kids under five, ensuring our youngest community members receive quality dental care. We believe every child deserves access to quality education, which is why we support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. West Sound Treatment Center

Improving lives and restoring hope, together we move forward. That’s West Sound Treatment Center’s motto and how we conduct the business of providing treatment and services to people struggling with substance use disorders. We don’t just wait for people to come to us – we have programs that reach out to unhoused and/or incarcerated members of the community to determine what they need, and then we help them to meet those needs through case management, housing, education, job placement, and court-involved services so that they can become healthy, whole, and productive. Our office in Poulsbo serves Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap, and we also have Bremerton and Port Orchard locations, with counselors who work in the courts and the jail, as well. YWCA of Kitsap County

YWCA of Kitsap County is the only state-certified domestic violence service provider in the County. We advance justice through direct service programs—24-hour hotline, safety planning, advocacy, emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal services, trauma-informed care, kids’ after-school and summer activities, support groups, strengthening families classes, digital skill classes and job counselling. We also serve the community indirectly by providing training for professionals and first responders and school-based prevention education. At the YWCA, a woman is empowered to leave an abusive relationship. With us, a mother and her children escape their abuser, avoid homelessness, and access safe, permanent housing. Here, with support and caring, a mother can find her positive path forward and families break the intergenerational cycle of violence. We bear witness to survivors’ dignity and celebrate their victories. But we don’t do it alone. It takes a community to end domestic violence–and Kitsap County CAN interrupt the cycle.
