Since 1973, Meals on Wheels Kitsap (MOWK) has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for Bainbridge Island residents, aged 60+ years through healthy and nutritious meals and more. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the organization served a total of 74,490 meals to 833 unduplicated seniors throughout Kitsap County. MOWK pivoted to provide weekly curbside meal pick-up at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center as well as continuing to deliver meals to homebound seniors. Additionally, MOWK distributed Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers to 36 low-income island seniors to purchase $40 worth of fresh produce at local farmer’s markets from June 1-October 31. Last year, MOWK provided 4,137 meals to 111 unduplicated Bainbridge seniors. Ten island residents also volunteer with MOWK.
