Northwest Maritime

Salish Sea Expeditions, a Northwest Maritime program, provides transformative marine science learning experiences for 6th- to 12th-grade students. Since the program’s inception in 1994, over 12,000 students have embarked on 3- to 5-day “science-under-sail” expeditions across the Puget Sound.

The program emphasizes hands-on, student-led scientific inquiry, fostering curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking by engaging participants in the roles of scientists and mariners. Activities aboard the program vessels Admiral Jack and the Schooner Zodiac include sailing, marine science experiments, and exploration of the San Juan Islands. Each expedition is a life-changing opportunity for students to immerse themselves in navigation and STEM projects, promoting a lasting appreciation for the marine environment.

We believe money should not be a barrier to access these experiences. With your support, we aim to grow our impactful programs, building a passion for natural science that young learners can bring back to their traditional learning environments.
