Butler Green Farm School

Brian MacWhorter has been raising biodynamic produce in Kitsap County since 1984, helping our community create a thriving market for nutritious, high-quality produce with his involvement in locals farmers’ markets, grocery stores, restaurants, and farm-based education programs for local schools. In the last fifteen years or so, over 50 interns have completed the Butler Green Apprentice Program, now Butler Green Farm School (BGFS). Most have continued to work in the food system in some way, including owning their own successful farms in North Kitsap. BGFS is now working to expand its farm educational services to the greater Bainbridge community. We feel that it is crucial for Bainbridge Islanders to understand where their food originates; the challenges that face sustainable small farms on Bainbridge Island; the connections between food, farming, health, and the environment; and how to become involved in home or community farm gardens.
