Alison lives on Bainbridge Island with her three young sons and husband, Chris Cain. As part of this tight-knit community, she feels privileged and humbled to serve on this board supporting organizations her family has come to love and value during the past six years.
Alison studied chemistry, biophysics and Spanish at Washington State University where she facilitated courses in technology-enhanced communication and completed honors thesis work on farm sustainability. She moved to Colorado to direct education centers (SCORE!) and later attended the International MBA program at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Upon completion of her MBA, she supported the growth of the educational publishing, professional development, and technology company Cambium Learning (now traded as ABCD — NASDAQ). Beginning in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant development, efficacy research and longitudinal study design, Alison quickly moved to the Merger and Aquisitions team, and then transitioned to Business Manager. While there she developed the company’s MRP system, managed and developed budgets, and provided guidance to all business units on issues such as royalty negotiations, contracts, sales and expense forecasting, marketing plan development, product development plans, and interpreting operating and financial metrics. She also served as the product and program director for online assessment products.
Later, Alison worked with Avalara as its business / financial analyst where she focused her efforts in sales operations, financial modeling, and internal systems supports. Alison has also consulted start-ups in the apparel, medical devices and entertainment industries.
