We learn by doing: “I pledge my Head to clear thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service and my Health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world.”
The Bainbridge Island Pony Club provides a program of education in horse care, riding and mounted sports of all kinds. As a club of the USPC, we have a 50+ year local tradition of developing responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence in young people. Today we are also a multi-generational resource for equestrians of all ages. Our educational program places equal emphasis on teaching riding skills, horse-care fundamentals, team participation and sportsmanship, with local, regional and national opportunities. We support a wide range of mounted sports including show jumping, eventing, dressage, fox-hunting, games, polo/polocross, tetrathalon, vaulting and more. We support our local equestrian clubs and resources with volunteer work.
Kitsap Audubon Society is dedicated to environmental study, nature study and the preservation of wildlife and habitat, and the enjoyment and appreciation of our natural areas. We hold monthly educational programs and organize birding field trips. We publish an informational newsletter, known for its photographs of birds and activities. We are active in land and habitat conservation efforts.
Kitsap Humane Society is our community’s largest animal welfare organization, dedicated to rescuing over 5,000 animals yearly, and also spaying/neutering over 5,000 pets. Adoptions have grown by 39% in 2 years, and our save rate is 96%. KHS serves over 25,000 people annually, including over 1,000 Islanders. We adopt pets out on BI on some weekends. Comprehensive services include rescue of local homeless pets; rescue of at-risk pets from regional shelters; medical and behavioral rehabilitation; reuniting lost pets with owners; Animal Control services; reduced price spay/neuter for low-income families; pet licensing; and engaging over 500 volunteers in our progressive work.
For over 40 years PAWS has helped thousands of Island pets and their families live richer, healthier lives. PAWS is 100% funded by private donations and receives no government funding. We are proud to be able to continue to provide vital services to our community such as pet adoptions, humane education, spay/neuter, a lost & found registry, emergency veterinary assistance, a pet food bank, animal assisted therapy as well as emergency boarding care for pets whose family is experiencing an emergency situation.
